What is Sexual Assault and Abuse?
Any situation, even if you have been drinking or taking drugs, in which you are forced to participate in unwanted, unsafe, or degrading sexual activity is sexual abuse. It includes rape, attempted rape, child molestation, voyeurism, exhibitionism, incest, and sexual harassment. Forced sex, even by a spouse or intimate partner with whom you also have consensual sex, is an act of aggression and violence. Furthermore, people whose partners abuse them physically and sexually are at a higher risk of being seriously injured or killed.
Safety Tips
- Be alert and aware of your surroundings.
- Never leave a social event with someone you have just met.
- Avoid walking alone and be wary of isolated spots.
- Create a safety plan so you know what you would do in the event of an attack.
